I am not sure what the Czech name is for them so I have used the English word. I mean something like this:

I want something more typical of Czech lands for my new layout. Faller and Auhagen are too German for my liking. The model is based on Kamenice nad Lipou and behind the station there are some high rise apartment blocks (sorry, English words again!). I am wanting a background that has those sorts of buildings. Are there any backscenes made by Czech manufacturers? Has anyone a photo of them or something similar that I could use?

Chci pro svůj nový vzhled něco typičtějšího pro české země. Faller a Auhagen jsou pro můj vkus příliš němečtí. Model je založen na Kamenici nad Lipou a za stanicí jsou některé výškové bytové domy (omlouvám se, anglická slova znovu!). Chci pozadí, které má takové druhy budov. Existují nějaké backscenes od českých výrobců? Má někdo fotku z nich nebo něco podobného, co bych mohl použít?

No problem with what you are saying, I think we understand you quite well. In Czech we use pozadí = background or kulisa = backdrop, the latter meaning exactly the same as in English, i.e. the things used behind a theatre stage to depict landscape, building walls etc.

Unfortunately I do not know anyone here in Czechia nor Slovakia making layout backdrops in an industrial way.

I dare recommend trainmania, but only for the production of custom print or DIY.

I'm afraid that a more industrial scene was demanded... Trainmania scenes are great, but a bit uninhabitated.

I have an idea, (I can be wrong completely, of course). Use google street map or "panorama" feature of mapy.cz to get pictures then photoshop or gimp ... Lot of work, but it could work.

They are very nice, much better than the panorama photos I took last time I was over your way. I have bookmarked the page!

I did look at Google streetmap but it doesn't give a clear view of the buildings. I have some photos but they are not very clear. I suppose not many people want to photograph apartment buildings except some of us! I will keep looking. Thanks!

For czech street maps https://mapy.cz is better choice, although in case of Kamenice it looks like they were taking photos at wrong time as sun is shining into the camera on many pictures.

Also Kamenice itself have some galleries and virtual tours (I haven't checked content) and their web page can be by google translator translated to English.

(I doubt that blocks of flats will be there as nobody is too proud of them, but in czech we call them "panelový dům" or "panelák" so you can have luck googling some similar pictures, if I understand correctly what you want. I thought you want the buildings near the railway station building.)

hobby: I do not know what should be a virtual distance of your backdrop depicted buildings from the real layout scene; if they are not too distant you could try to use particular facades from kits made by the Czech Malá železnice instead of photos.

Thanks, some great links and ideas! They don't have to be from Kamenice as the layout is a copy of it not a scale model, it was just they were the ones I knew! I may well use a sky background with some of the pictures cut and pasted on.

I have a road going behind the station with "half relief" buildings along the back. The half relief buildings are Igra models cut in half! The backscene is directly behind them so it as if you are looking at the town scene between the buildings.
